Afternoon tea at the Edgbaston Boutique Hotel

I do love a good afternoon tea; I mean what’s better then spending an afternoon drinking English breakfast tea with a selection of delicious sandwiches and cakes? I’m hoping you’re not questioning that, and you’re on the same wave length…I’m totally channeling my inner granny now. But I’m really excited to tell you about my recent afternoon tea find at the Edgbaston Boutique Hotel. 

 

 

By the way my sister, Sonam booked this for my (very belated) birthday present. Just had to get that one in.

 

 

So on arrival our table was set up with 1920 style crockery, which fitted in perfectly with the black and gold decor in the cocktail lounge. I loved how this grade II listed building has been transformed into a chic hotel with a boutique feel. It’s really impressive.

We were given a selection of afternoon teas to pick from; Sonam and I went for the ‘traditional’ afternoon tea that comes with a selection of teas and coffee.

At this point we were both sitting back enjoying our English breakfast teas…and then this palette cleanser was served.

 

 

How amazing does that look, so this was one of those ‘do I snap chat’, OR ‘do I take a picture’ dilemmas. Luckily Sonam was there to take a pic while I snapped, sister team work at its best.

Anyway getting back to the palette cleanser, it’s designed to infuse your taste buds and get you in the mood for the indulging flavours in the afternoon tea.

 

 

Once the excitement of the amazing palette cleanser died down, it was time for our afternoon tea. We had a good selection of baguettes, buns and finger sandwiches, accompanied by macaroons, raspberry lollipops and mini tarts.

 

 

 

Finally, the freshly made scones were served with jam and clotted cream. The scones were served on a separate plate, we were completely full by this stage – but it would’ve been rude not to indulge.

 

 

Final thoughts 

I’ve been to most afternoon teas in Birmingham, and each of them offer something different depending on what you’re looking for.

From a service perspective the Edgbaston hotel is definitely up there, and the palette cleanser adds a really nice touch. The attention to detail is very noticeable. And kudos to the General Manager – Doug who very kindly showed us round.

So if you’re an afternoon tea lover and like to indulge in a spot of tea with a difference, the Edgbaston Hotel is definitely worth checking out.
